Cervical cancer is a serious disease affecting the lower part of the uterus (cervix). It is caused mainly by certain types of HPV. If not detected early, it can be life-threatening. HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is a common virus that spreads through skin-to-skin contact. Some types cause cervical cancer, while others cause genital warts. The HPV vaccine is the most effective way to prevent infection and protect against cervical cancer. The vaccine works best before exposure to HPV, which is why it’s given at this age for maximum protection.
